Charitable Activities of the Congregation of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in the Czech Republic in the Light of the Social Teaching of the Church

The work deals with the activities of the Congregation of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in the territory of the Czech Republic in the light of the social doctrine of the Church, with focus on charitable activities. The first part of the thesis presents the life of St. Augustine who formulated the monastic rules which gave the base for the constitution of the Congregation of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. The work is also devoted to St. Peter Fourier and beatified Alix Le Clerc who founded an order called Canonesses of St. Augustine of the Congregation de Notre Dame in France at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. The next part of the work deas with Gabriel Schneider, a zealous priest, who introduced the Congregation of the Poor School Sisters of Notre Dame to Bohemia, and at the same time focuses on the activities of the Congregation of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in České Budějovice from 1871 to the present. The second part of the work deals with the monastic life and activities of the School Sisters of Notre Dame by St. Josef in Č. Budějovice, and at the same time describes the charitable activities of the Congregation. The third part of the work discusses the Social Doctrine of the Church, both in terms of its meaning and development, as well as its principles: caritas, personality, solidarity, subsidiarity and the common good. The last part of the work connects the principles of the Social Doctrine of the Church with the constitution and with the charitable activities of the Congregation.
Development of the Iconography of the Holy Women at the Empty Tomb (Visitatio Sepulchri) in Light of the Medieval Church Music-Drama

Development of the iconography of the Holy Women at the Empty Tomb (Visitatio Sepulchri) in light of the medieval Church music-drama Abstract The work connects the iconography of the Visitatio Sepulchri theme in the visual art with the same motive in the medieval Church music-drama, also known as Quem quaeritis, which is the cradle of the Western theatre. As a result, the work puts to light several schemes in the visual art which can be understood only with reference to the drama, as scenes from a play. Additionally, several typical space arrangements are identified. The work also looks deeper into the participation of women in those plays as authors, singers and actors, which is still much less known than it should be by the general public. Case studies are given, such as how it must have looked at the cathedral of Essen. Geography-wise, since the Visitatio Sepulchri belongs to the Latin liturgy, naturally the focus is there, while the Greek, Coptic and Armenian worlds are observed in passing with the fascinated eyes of a foreigner, the exception being the plays brought to the Kingdom of Jerusalem in the 12th century by the Augustine canons. Life And Work of Konrád Maria Kubeš, T. J. (1890-1967): Missionary, Preacher, Excercitator and Deep Devotee of the Marian Cult

This dissertation in its first part inquires the life and work of Konrád Maria Kubeš (1890? 1967), a people?s missionary, a preacher, an excercitator and a deep devotee of the Marian cult. It is introduced with the socio-political history in 1890?1967, with the overview of the Popes and theological thinking between 1878 and 1978. Next, it looks in detail into each period of Kubeš?s life, his family background, high school studies in Hradec Králové, his theological studies in Prague, his entry into the monastic order and his activities in Society of Jesus. The dissertation pursues Kubeš?s life story in communist centralization monasteries, in Moravec, his short work in Bukovinka and finally his forced stay in Břežany near Znojmo. Afterwards, it analyses Kubeš?s theological work published in books and journals, as well his historical contribution. The final part of the dissertation evaluates Kubeš?s personality and his significance in the context of the Czech religious and monastic history of the 20th century. The author based his thesis primarily on archival recources, Kubeš?s short autobiographical memories, oral and written witnesses of his contemporaries and last but not least on secondary literature. The second part of the dissertation contains 182 text apendixes and 2 pictorial apendixes which are make up an indispensable and logical supplement to the whole picture of the life, work and contribution of Konrád Maria Kubeš.
Founder of Czech hospitals of the 13th century Saint Agnes and St. Zdislava - their life and work

The aim of this thesis is to describe the life and work of St. Zdislava and St. Agnes of Bohemia. In the first part, there is a description of biographies of both saints, their vocation in life, charity and foundation work, their life-works. The second part compares the differences between St. Zdislava and St. Agnes of Bohemia and vice versa, it mentions their commonalities, further it describes motivation and source of strength St. Zdislava and St. Agnes of Bohemia for their foundation and charity activities. The conclusion is devoted to the reference and relevance of the topic of marriage and religious life today.
Possibilities of utilization of Czech monasteries in contemporary society

This Bachelor's Thesis is focused on monastic buildings in contemporary Czech society - its aim is to highlight possible utilization of these historic buildings. The theoretical section deals with Roman Catholic Church, religious organizations and monastic institutions. Next chapter is historical and generally describes development of monasteries and monastic life in our country. The practical section consists of a summary of the most common utilization of monasteries and two chapters analyzing utilization of two monasteries in Prague - Strahov and Břevnov.
